Families will find lots of fun things to do at State Theatre New Jersey all year round! Our engaging performances, workshops, and other activities are a great way for families to play and learn together.
State Theatre New Jersey is also committed to making quality arts experiences accessible to disadvantaged, underserved, and special-needs groups. Working with our community partners, we provide thousands of underserved individuals with free and subsidized education and community engagement programs designed to enrich the people's lives in our diverse community.
Sensory-Friendly Performances
Sensory-Friendly Performances are specially designed to create a safe, welcoming environment for audiences on the autism spectrum or with other sensory sensitivities to experience the joy of live theater.
Milk & Cookies Series for Ages 3-8
Milk & Cookies, State Theatre New Jersey’s storytelling and music series, introduces young children to the joy of watching, listening, and interacting with live performances.
New Brunswick Heart Festival
Presented by State Theatre New Jersey, New Brunswick Cultural Center, NBPAC, and I Am D. Muse, this annual FREE outdoor family-friendly festival celebrates the vibrant arts and history of New Brunswick and Middlesex County. The festival features live music and dance performances, dance classes for kids and adults, an Arts Market, craft vendors, free balloon animals and face painting, food vendors, a health & wellness tent, a history corner featuring historical interpreters, arts & crafts activities, games, free Henna and caricatures, giveaways, and more.
Pride Nights
Celebrate Pride at STNJ with Pride Night Parties! Entry is possible with the purchase of a ticket to the featured Pride Night performances.
Artist Residencies
State Theatre New Jersey’s free artist residencies allow people of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances to engage in a meaningful way with professional performing artists.
Free Summer Movies
Families and groups can beat the summer heat with free weekday kids’ movies on State Theatre New Jersey’s gigantic 46’ screen!
